Built by Woodys and launched in 1983, the Eastwind 68 is a serious long-distance cruiser designed for ocean passages and full-time living aboard. Build and seakeeping

Aluminium hull and deck, 17.40 m overall with a 4.50 m beam and 28 tonnes displacement: this is a genuine offshore platform, steady and reassuring when the breeze builds. A modest 1.60 m draft opens up shallow anchorages, lagoons and river cruising, a rare asset on a yacht of this size. Sail wardrobe includes a fully battened mainsail, genoa and storm jib, with bowsprit and mainsail traveller.

Power and autonomy

A Perkins 6-cylinder 135 hp, fitted in 1990 with shaft drive, delivers 6 knots cruising at 8 litres per hour. Tankage matches the programme: 1,500 litres of diesel and 1,000 litres of fresh water, backed by a generator, solar panels and 12V, 24V, 110V and 220V circuits.
